Since 2005, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. (PHWFF) has been helping military service members with disabilities and now has chapters across the United States. PHWFF is known for its innovation in the therapeutic outdoor recreation field. Using the sport of flyfishing as a rehabilitation tool, veterans with disabilities go on outings as well as receive education on the sport.

More Than a One-Day Fishing Trip

In addition to classes on basic fly fishing, fly tying and rod-building, and fly casting, PHWFF also offers trips and education on an ongoing, long-term basis. The socialization and camaraderie, exposure to the peace that being in nature can provide, and the development of a new hobby come together to provide a healing experience for participants.

All equipment, as well as all year-round outings, are provided to participants free of charge. Outings range from one-day to multi-day trips.

How to Get Involved

If you are a veteran with a disability, you can reach out to your local chapter to take advantage of this powerful program. You don’t need to have done fly fishing before — total beginners are welcome! They also offer virtual meetings.

PHWFF is also always looking for volunteers. From teaching fly fishing classes to providing transportation and meals, there is a volunteer opportunity for everyone!
