Awareness and Advocacy Training Programs That Improve Our Communities
The Awareness and advocacy training programs MyCIL (Northeast PA Center for Independent Living) offers include:
- Project A.B.L.E. — Through this unique sensitization program, people who do not have a disability can better understand what living with a disability is like. Workstations simulate various disabilities to give participants a firsthand experience.
- Disability Sensitivity Training — The public learns more about people with disabilities through this sensitivity training. By increasing awareness, we dispel stereotypes, teach disability etiquette and inform people about the law. Common respect, courtesy and eliminating the awkwardness some people feel interacting with a person with a disability are our goals.
- Firefighter/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Disability Awareness Training — This training program educates firefighters and EMS personnel on how to properly respond to people with disabilities. The training sensitizes and educates on how to identify, address and respond to individuals with disabilities.
- ADA Compliance Training — Through ADA compliance training, we teach the basic requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act in simple, understandable terms. Our goal is to educate people about the core concepts and principles in both the ADA and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008.
- Medical College Student Training — Medical students learn how to best interact with people who have disabilities. Our disability awareness sessions give future doctors and nurses a better understanding of what’s it’s like to be a patient with a disability.
