In their music video “Close My Eyes,” Rudely Interrupted illustrates why you shouldn’t judge people on their looks, including people with disabilities. This celebrated indie-rock band is comprised of six members, five of whom have disabilities.
In the video, all you see are the performs in shadows. It isn’t until halfway through do they turn on the lights to reveal who is creating the awesome song.
The video and the group are reframing how people view disabilities. In particular, they’re proving that people with disabilities can create moving — and rocking — songs.
Since 2006 Rudely Interrupted has been touring the globe, performing their unique independent rock songs. In the years since, they’ve earned international recognition: a Cannes Award, a Melbourne Music Prize nomination, Top 20 hit iTunes Luxembourg, the first independent band to perform at the United Nations in New York City and more.
